Hot Sauce Blog

I live in Toronto, Canada, and it's VERY disappointing to not know of any sort of heat event in the city!! If I'm misinformed and unaware, then I apologize for bothering anyone. But I even asked the guys at Taste the 4th Sense and they did not believe such events existed here! Something is SERIOUSLY WRONG if the biggest city in Canada has a hot sauce store, plenty of people who love hot food, yet NO HOT FOOD EVENT!!!

I would die to see an event with the following:

- hot sauce exhibitions, promotions with samples, and competitions
- pepper eating contest, hot wing eating contest, etc
- hottest dish competition by category (chillies, curries, wings, etc)
- lots of spices and sauces being sold by the hundreds
- plenty of drinks for those who can't take the pain hahaha

If only this would happen at least once a year, Canadian chileheads would gather together for once, while Toronto gains tourism for the better of the economy.

Anyone else think this is a good idea? And please update me if I'm missing out on something..

The hot and spice food festival down by the harbour front happens in Aug, although I am sure you would be disappointed in it..I know I was. Not sure they are doing one for 09.
That's disappointing already. Is it just lame taco bell sauce and Japaneno eating contests? Booo...

We need a REAL chilehead event, not some lame festival for babies. Where is the love for the hardcore?
You are right - nothing like that exists. There was one Defcon Day here a couple years back that was a pretty big hit but it never caught on.

The Fire & Ice thing that happens at the Harbour front every year is laughable and poorly organized.

Cajun Corner seems to be doing some great things. Check em out - http://www.cajuncorner.ca/
Damn, more disappointment from Toronto. But thanks for the link, I'll check that place out sometime. =D Just how hot is the food at Cajun Corner, anyway?
The Harbourfront Festival was not bad but could have been better. Ever been to that hot sauce store on the Danforth? They carry some nice sauces from around the world...but nothing beats making your own.
I already mentioned I go to Taste the 4th Sense in my original post; I love that place. I also DO make my own hot sauce, or more like a habanero puree. I usually make it every 2 - 3 weeks, and it always burns the hell out of my friends. =P
Say, redeyeguy, if you want to taste the best hot sauces that Toronto has to offer, you might want to visit the One of a Kind Show. It opens next Thursday at the Direct Energy Center.

If you'd like to be the guest of the Peppermaster, send us an email via our website and we'll leave a pair of tickets for you at the Will-Call desk.

We also attend the Hot & Spicy festival in the summer, which I might add wouldn't be so lame if all the American and West-coast Canadian hot sauce makers actually showed up.
Well bring your own fire if you need to heat up. The food there is very well known and respected as being as the most authentic Cajun int he city. You have to see the place.

Also outside of Taste the 4th Sense they have one of the bigger selections of hot sauces around in the area.

Also check out some of the caribbean shops in Kensington. You can get a bunch of imported sauces their for a fraction of what you would pay else where.

Surprsingly enough - check out Winner's and Homesense for hot sauce. I just bought some of the Da' Bomb, Dave's Insanity and Pain is good 95%. All a few bucks cheaper than anywhere else. They key to finding them though is to visit regularly.
We did one of our events a couple years ago in Toronto and had a ball. It was at The Bishop & Belcher. We had a pretty good turnout, and I think, as usual, everyone had a lot of fun. We want to do it again, but with myself and The Wife Unit both having new 9-5 jobs, our vacation time is limited to trade shows.
The Deathmatch was a good one, and most left the table having reached a pain level they previously didn't know existed.
I tell that story at least once a week. That was an experience I will never forget. Thanks for the memories!!!!!!
What about the Toronto Hot+Spicy Festival held every year at the Harbourfront - can't beat the free admission either?

We were there along with 9 or 10 other Hot Sauce Vendors, and had a blast! It was Labour day weekend and probably will be again next year

Hope this helps
